Old shakes come off onto tarps. On a Tudor, colonial, Victorian or Cape Cod, we cover the plantings, guard the gutters and sheet the attic under the skip boards.
Plan on three to five working days for a detached house. Every evening we sweep and run a nail magnet. The dumpster leaves with the last shake.

Replacement, when the damage is spread out: rot, splitting, curling, cupping, moss, missing shakes or attic leaks. Bad boards in one patch? Repairing just those boards still makes sense.
