Soffits and Fascia Replacement for Rotted Eaves
Soffits and fascia replacement at Flat Roofers NY starts with cutting the rot out of your eaves. Then we rebuild the roof edge with new board, trim and vented soffit. The estimate is free.
Spot any of these at your eaves?
- Rotted fascia
- Sagging gutters
- Peeling paint
- Water stains
- Holes in the soffit
- Birds or squirrels nesting
Rebuilding your roof edge, board to drip edge
These are the five steps, in the order we do them:
-
Step 1: Rotted wood out
The old fascia and soffit come off. We cut back to solid wood.
-
Step 2: New fascia board
Fresh boards go on the rafter tails, straight so the gutters hang true.
-
Step 3: Capping or PVC trim
We wrap the board in aluminum, or we fit PVC that can't rot.
-
Step 4: Soffit and vents
Vented panels go in under the overhang, open to the attic.
-
Step 5: Drip edge and gutters
Drip edge goes on, sealing the new fascia at the roof edge. Gutters go back up, then we inspect the run.
Vented soffit keeps the attic dry
The soffit is the attic's air intake. Air comes in at the eaves and leaves at the roof vents.
Solid or clogged soffit blocks that path. Damp air stalls in the attic and feeds the same rot we just removed. So we install vented soffit, and air moves from the eaves to the roof vents again.
Aluminum, vinyl or PVC at your eaves
Three materials can go back on your eaves, compared side by side:
| Attribute | Our usual fit Aluminum soffit + aluminum fascia wrap | Vinyl soffit | PVC trim board |
|---|---|---|---|
| Goes on | Soffit and fascia | Soffit | Fascia |
| Moisture | Won't rot, covers the wood | Won't rot | Won't rot or swell |
| Upkeep | Wash it, no painting | Can crack in deep cold | Paint if you like |
| Best for | Full edge rebuilds | Lower-cost soffit runs | Replacing the board itself |
Soffit and fascia questions
Can you replace only the rotted section?
Yes, if the rot stops short. When it runs along the whole wall, we replace the full run.
Do you take down and rehang the gutters?
Yes. They come off first and rehang on the new board, pitched to the downspouts.
Do you work on rowhouses and bigger buildings?
Yes. We work on attached rowhouses, two-family homes, detached houses, and multi-family and mixed-use buildings.
What if the roof itself is leaking?
Then we fix the roof first, or the new board rots too. We trace the water and repair the roof leak that rotted the edge before the new trim goes on.
Free estimate for your soffits and fascia
Should we price your soffits and fascia replacement? We check the fascia board, the soffit and the vents, then price the whole run.
